Cyber Crimes

Cybercrime relates to any crime that includes a computer and a network. In such cases the computer is used as an engine to commit crimes, or it may be the target. These crimes refer to felonious abuse of the internet. Convicts may threaten a nation’s safety and financial health. Problems enclosing this type of crime have become noticeable particularly child pornography,copyright infringement and spam. There are also dangers of privacy and identity theft. International legal system is making an effort to hold culprits responsible for their actions through the International Criminal Court. There are different types of cyber crimes some of them are listed below.

  • Spam:

is to send the same message indiscriminately to (large numbers of recipients) on the Internet.

  • Computer Fraud:

is using the computer in some way to commit dishonesty by obtaining an advantage or causing loss of something of value.

  • Obscene or offensive content:

contains internet pornography, blasphemous, material that tends to incite hate crimes, racist comments etc.

  • Harassment:

comments at specific individuals focusing for example on gender, race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation

  • Drug Trafficking:

to sell illegal substances through encrypted e-mail and other Internet Technology.

  • Cyber Terrorism:

is an act of terrorism committed through the use of cyberspace or computer resources.

  • Cyber warfare:

refers to actions by a nation-state to penetrate another nation's computers or networks for the purposes of causing damage or disruption.
